Ulyanovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant), better known aroundthe world byits acronym UAZ, is aboutto begin production ofits UAZ Patriot SUVs and pickup trucks inIran.
The necessary arrangements, alongwith the signing ofseveral pertinent contracts, were made duringthe Iran Auto Show 2017, an international expo which was held inTehran inFebruary.

UAZ Patriot[/caption]Andrey Dorofeev, UAZ Export Sales Director, told Sputnik Persian that the company first needs toassess the capacity ofthe Iranian market and the demand forits products beforebeginning manufacturing.
"The Iranian automobile industry is well-developed and the government protects it withhefty import taxes So inorder toachieve a significant sales volume it is necessary toassemble cars onIranian territory. But inorder tounderstand the needs ofthe local customers, first it is necessary tobegin supplying already-manufactured cars. We, alongwith our distributors, are ready tobegin this process afterthe certification," Dorofeev said.
It should be noted that Iran is quite familiar withUAZ vehicles asabout 15,000 ofthem were supplied tothe Islamic Republic bythe 1990s. Back then, the cars were purchased strictly tosatisfy the needs ofthe Iranian Defense Ministry. Soon however Iranian motorists will get a chance tofamiliarize themselves withthese reliable and efficient vehicles.
