Iran, Belarus to expand cooperation in sport

BelTA Iran intends to expand cooperation in sport with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Belarus Mostafa Oveisi said as he met with representatives of the Belarusian Wrestling Federation and the National Greco-Roman Team on 9 March, BelTA learned from the embassy.

The event was held in the run-up to the Greco-Roman World Cup which will be held in the city of Abadan in the south of Iran. Alexander Medved, a Soviet athlete, freestyle wrestler, three-time Olympic champion, multiple champion of the world, Europe and the USSR, attended the meeting in the capacity of an honorary guest.

The event will provide impetus for the further development of sport cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador expressed his hope for the successful performance of the Belarusian team at the World Championships in Iran as this is an excellent opportunity to make a name for yourself.

In addition, mutual understanding has been reached on a number of issues. Plans have been made to sign an agreement on cooperation between the federations of Belarus and Iran. Conditions will be prepared for setting up training grounds in Belarus in the summer time and in Iran in the winter time and also for joint training.
