Iran, Russia to build 6,000 freight cars

MNA Iran and Russia have agreed to jointly manufacture six thousand railroad cars for domestic consumption.

Research and Production Corporation United Wagon Company (RPC UWC) and three Iranian firms sealed a deal to build six thousand Russian railway wagons for the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (abbreviated RAI) within three years.

Irans Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammadreza Nematzadeh as well as managing directors of the involved companies held a session to review the previously taken measures.

At the meeting, Nematzadeh emphasized the need for timely fulfillment of obligations by domestic manufacturers.

On the basis of the reached agreement and given the capacity of indigenous factories, a total of 4,900 freight cars will be supplied domestically while 1,100 more vehicles will be imported within two years in the form of CBUs (Completely Built Units).

The three Iranian companies have agreed to build and deliver a total of 4,900 railcars in the three coming years through Russia financing.

The body of railway carriages will be indigenously constructed from the first year while in the third year, only wheels and brakes will be imported from United Wagon Company which one of the largest rail companies in Russia and the CIS.
