Senate minority leader slams Trump's 'watered down' immigration order

Sputnik- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that US President Donald Trump's new immigration order poses security risks for the United States and should be repealed.


WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The new executive order signed byTrump onMonday bans all immigration fromsix majority-Muslim countries forthe next 90 days, and bans all refugees fromentering the US for120 days.


The Department ofHomeland Security explained that forthe next 90 days, foreign nationals fromSudan, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Yemen who are outsidethe United States withouta valid entry visa when the order takes effect are not eligible totravel tothe country.
"A watered downban is still a ban. Despite the Administration's changes, this dangerous executive order makes us less safe, not more, it is mean-spirited, and un-American. It must be repealed," Schumer stated.


Schumer argued that the new executive action would be challenged inthe US courts asthe previous version had. The senator added that no editing could change the essential idea ofTrump's order, which could lead toextreme fear and uncertainty forthousands ofimmigrants.
