Turkish border guard fired for beating Iranian nationals

IRNA – Iran Charge d’affaires in Turkey Ali Reza Delkhosh said that the border guard who had disrespected and beaten up a number of Iranian nationals at Gurbulak border point was fired.

Delkhosh told IRNA on Friday that the Turkish law-breaking border guard was fired following serious diplomatic and consular pressures exerted by Iran’s mission in Turkey and expression of Tehran’s strong protest to Turkish Foreign Ministry.

A video went viral on social networks three days ago showing a Turkish border guard insulting and beating a number of people, reportedly Iranians, at the Gurbulak border.

Gurbulak is a village in the district Doğubeyazıt of province Ağrı in eastern Turkey. It is a border checkpoint into Iran via Bazargan border in west of the country.

Iran’s Ambassador to Turkey Mohammad Ebrahim Taherianfard told IRNA earlier on Friday that Tehran will pursue the follow up the case of beating up and disrespecting of the Iranian nationals seriously.

After the video went viral on social networks, Iranian Foreign Ministry officials and political officials of the East Azarbaijan Governor General Office reacted strongly to the issue.

Iran said it would close its Bazargan border into Turkey of the issue was not dealt with properly.
