Iran, Russia, Turkey reiterate willingness to cooperate on Syria ceasefire

Sputnik News- Experts from Russia, Iran and Turkey confirmed readiness to cooperate in order to achieve full ceasefire in Syria, Stanislav Gadzhimagomedov, the head of the Russian delegation, said Monday.

Earlier inthe day, the first session ofthe Syria ceasefire regime monitoring joint task force (JTF), bringing together experts fromRussia, Iran and Turkey, concluded inAstana.

"Delegations confirmed their readiness tocontinue towork towardsthe full implementation ofthe cessation ofhostilities inSyria," Gadzhimagomedov, the deputy head ofthe Russian Armed Forces' main operational department, told a briefing.

"The participants ofthe meeting discussed the progress ofimplementation ofcessation ofhostilities inSyria, special measures toestablish an effective monitoring mechanism and control The participants also discussed the measures ofmutual confidence and ensuring unimpeded humanitarian access," he added.

Since 2011, Syria has been engulfed ina civil war, withgovernment forces fighting againstnumerous opposition and terrorist groups, including al-Nusra Front and Daesh, banned ina range ofcountries, including Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced inDecember that the Syrian government and armed opposition groups had reached an agreement ona nationwide ceasefire inSyria and onreadiness tostart peace talks.
