Khademalsharieh nominated for 2016 World Fair Play Awards

MNA International Fair Play Committee has nominated Iranian female chess IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh for the 2016 World Fair Play Awards.

During the final of the FIDE Womens Grand Prix in Russia's Khanty-Mansiyska in November 2016, International Master and Woman Grandmaster of Iran Khademalsharieh performed heroically chivalric conduct in agreeing in a draw against Ukrainian Natalia Zhukova.

The two sides agreed on a draw early into the game after only 11 moves and at the request of the Ukrainian side. Apparently, the French contestant Almira Skripchenko had been taken to the hospital due to a mild heart issue leaving all participants at a poor emotional state. Khademalsharieh had therefore agreed to a tie with Zhukova who was still shocked after she had accompanied Skripchenko to the hospital.

At the same time, President of the National Olympic Committee of Iran Kiumars Hashemi, while praising the conduct of Khademalsharieh, stated that correspondences had been made with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Ethics Commission as well as the International Fair Play Committee (abbreviated as CIFP) in order to introduce the Iranian chess hero as a candidate for the 2016 edition of World Fair Play Awards.

Accordingly, International Fair Play Committee, in letter to the National Olympic Committee of Iran, has confirmed the chivalric conduct of Sarasadat Khademalsharieh calling for certain documents for her name to be registered as a nominee for World Fair Play Awards of the year 2016.

As such, given the measures taken by the National Olympic Committee of Iran and the approval of CIFP, the Iranian IM enjoys a great chance to acquire the last years fair play trophy.

The International Fair Play Committee's mission is to draw the attention of the world to the outstanding examples of fair play attitude and good sportsmanship in sports. The Committee presents awards annually in four categories Act, Act of the Youth, Career and Promotion of fair play respectively to athletes, teams, journalists, sports officials and organizations all over the world.
