Iran to take reciprocal measures towards US nationals: VP

IRNA First Vice-president Eshaq Jahangiri stressed that the Iranian government supports its nationals all over the world, saying Tehran is to take reciprocal measures towards the US nationals who want to travel to Iran.

Jahangiri made the remarks Monday in response to the US President Donald Trumps recent move to sign a discriminatory executive order on January 27 which bans entry of citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, to US.

Irans official reaction to the US visa ban will be what the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced in an official statement on January 28.

'To ensure respect for the dignity of all members of the great Iranian nation at home and abroad, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran will engage in a careful assessment of the short and medium-term impact of the decision of the US.
Government on Iranian nationals, and will take proportionate legal, consular and political action and -- while respecting the American people and differentiating between them and the hostile policies of the US Government will take reciprocal measures in order to safeguard the rights of its citizens until the time of the removal of the insulting restrictions of the Government of the United States against Iranian nationals,' the statement said.

Through all services we have, we will support our nationals all over the world, the senior official stressed.

Iran will take due stance in the international communities against the anti-human rights, inhuman and illegitimate measure taken by the US, Jahangiri noted adding the world should know the reality of so-called human rights in the US.

Iran is the most civilized nation in the world, said Jahangiri stressing that it cannot be accused of being an advocate of terrorism as the country has played a leading role in the world civilization.

Iranian people are victims of terrorism, and they have been hurt by that phenomenon very much after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the veep went on to say.

Meanwhile, Iran has been the only country which has stood bravely against terrorists being supported by the US and certain regional countries to disrupt security in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Libya.

We, surely, continue the fight against terrorism, and strongly support the rights of the Iranian nation all over the world, he underlined.
