Oman-Iran commercial relations need improvement, says OCCI chairman



Muscat Daily- Commercial relations between the sultanate and Iran need to be improved and there is a common desire to enhance economic activities, said Said bin Saleh al Kiyumi, chairman, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). He was talking during a Business-to-Business gathering held between Omani and Iranian companies.




Over 100 businessmen and investors from Oman visited Iran in 2014 but Irans commercial relationships with other countries are stronger, he said at the event held at OCCI premises. It was part of the Iran Country Solo Exhibition held in the sultanate.

Kiyumi affirmed the importance in strengthening commercial relationships between the two countries and removing hurdles which cripple their development. Kiyumi also said that Oman has the necessary political stability and security as well as the laws that enable Iran to invest in Oman. He mentioned that Oman will open a ferry line from Sohar to Chabahar in Iran, which will be a link for commercial exchange between the two countries. Eng Shafie, chairman, Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, affirmed that relationship between Oman and Iran is important.

He added that the authorities hope to overcome obstacles in commercial exchange, banking and insurance sectors.

Gholamreza Dehghan, member of board and commercial deputy of Shahab Tousheh Company in Iran said, The exhibition will promote good communication between Oman and Iran to develop commercial relations. It will strengthen cooperation and communication that can lead to an increase in trading activities between Oman and Iran.
