Advisor: Astana meeting big step in finding solution to Syrian crisis

IRNA - Special Advisor to Majlis Speaker for International Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that the Astana meeting on Syria was as an important step towards finding a political solution for the crisis in the country.

Speaking to IRNA, Amir-Abdollahian said that political negotiations are the sole approach towards finding a solution to the crisis and those negotiations should be realistic and that the true representatives of the Syrian opposition groups who believe in finding a political solution should be engaged in the talks.

Engaging in talks with terrorists who change their appearances but fail to change their behaviors will be of no use, he said.

Some of these terrorist groups who attended the Astana talks, doped with poison the dinking water in Damascus in recent weeks and even prevented access of the citizens to water, he said.

Still, they attended Astana frocking up like politicians, he added.

Initiated by Iran, Russia and Turkey, the two-day International Meeting on Syrian Settlement in Kazakh capital sought to address the Syrian peace process earlier this week in a bid to end hostilities in the country and guarantee peace and security there.
