Russian long-range bombers strike Daesh targets in Deir Ezzor for fourth time

Sputnik News- Russian long-range bombers continued airstrikes on Daesh targets in Syria's Deir ez-Zor on Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.





Six Russian long-range Tu-22M3 bombers launched airstrikes ontwo Daesh's control centers, aswell asarms and ammunition depots and hardware inSyria's Deir ez-Zor.
"Means ofobjective control confirmed successful destruction ofall designated targets," the statement said.


The Russian Defense Ministry said that the Tu-22M3 long-range bombers took offfrom an airfield inRussia and flew overthe territory ofIraq and Iran.

After successfully completing their combat mission inSyria, the Russian jets returned toRussia.

On Saturday, Russian strategic bombers started targeting Daesh positions inDeir ez-Zor. This is the fourth time Russian long-range aircraft carry outthe operation inthe area.

Last week, Daesh terrorists surrounded the Deir ez-Zor military airfield inSyria's northeast. Deir ez-Zor airbase remains the last line ofdefense ofthe Syrian army onthe way tothe city. Despite numerous terrorist attacks involving suicide bombers and military equipment, the Syrian Air Force managed not only tosuccessfully defend the airfield, butalso counterattacked terrorists fighting innearby territories.

Commenting onthe development ofthe situation inthe area, the Russian General Staff said onWednesday that if terrorists capture Deir ez-Zor, civilians will be subjected togenocide and the population may be completely exterminated.

The city ofDeir ez-Zor, which is still held bySyrian government forces, has been underDaesh's siege sinceJuly 2014. The residents ofDeir ez-Zor and the servicemen receive food only viaplanes delivering humanitarian aid.
