Syria talks may drag through Tuesday, work on final document ongoing - Sources

Sputnik News- The intra-Syrian talks in Astana may drag through Tuesday evening, though previously the sides expected the meeting to end by 2 p.m. local time (08:00 GMT), different sources in the participating delegations told Sputnik on Tuesday.

According tothe information provided, the work onthe final document is still ongoing. Russia, Turkey and Iran are expected tosign the communique, while Syrian government and armed opposition will present their own statements separately.

On the sidelines ofthe meeting, participating delegations said the talks could drag throughTuesday evening or even Wednesday, depending onthe organizers' decision.s

Earlier inthe day, UN Special Envoy forSyria Staffan de Mistura told Sputnik that he hoped that the final document would be signed later today.

Commenting onthe possible extension ofthe talks Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) member Naser Hariri said talks were likely tofinish onTuesday.

The Syrian settlement talks inKazakhstan's capital brokered byMoscow, Ankara and Tehran, started onMonday. The talks brought together the delegation ofthe Syrian government and representatives ofarmed opposition groups forthe first time sincethe beginning ofthe state's civil war in2011.
