Tehran, Beirut committed to develop all-out ties: MP

IRNA - Tehran and Beirut are committed to develop relations and cooperation in all fields particularly in economy, trade and security, a senior Iranian MP said.

Chairman of Iranian Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commision Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA.

Elaborating on his meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, the lawmaker said, 'We congratulated the new year and his election as Lebanon new president,' the MP added.

Boroujerdi said, 'We discussed the importance of Syria case for Iran and Lebanon from security point of view.'

The lawmaker referred to the end of power vacuum in Lebanon and entry of the country into a new phase and said, 'Both Tehran and Beirut underlined their commitment for development of relations and cooperation in all fields particularly in economy, trade and security.'

The Lebanese president requested Iran to help Beirut for resolution of problems of Syrian refugees residing in the country, Boroujerdi added.

'We told the Lebanon president that return of Syrian refugees to their home is dependent on the level of security established in Syria, ' he said.

Boroujerdi added, 'Lebanese president underlined boost of relations with Iran in all fields.'

'Lebanese president had some questions regarding the upcoming intra-Syrian talks in Astana and voiced hope that the Syrian crisis would be resolved through political ways,' the MP said.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation arrived in Lebanon on Thursday evening and held a meeting with the country's parliament Hezbollah faction.

The Iranian delegation had separate meetings with the Lebanon president, parliament speaker and prime minister.

Boroujerdi on Friday went to Dahieh region, south of Beirut, and paid tribute to Lebanons resistance martyrs including Hezbollahs martyred commanders Imad Mughniyih and Mustafa Badreddine.
