Syrian FM's visit to Iran for further coordination: Spokesman

IRNA Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Bahram Qasemi Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem visit to Iran was for further coordination prior to the Astana talks on the Syrian crisis.

'We're continuosly facing with new events; the regional developments are happening fast,' Qasemi said while speaking to reporters during his weekly press briefing here on Monday.

During the past years, particularly in recent months, Iran has held repeated and regular talks with certain regional countries including Syria, the spokesman noted.

Muallem , who arrived in Tehran on Dec 31, negotiated with the Iranian officials including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the latest regional developments and the situation of Syria after Aleppo liberation as well as Moscow trilateral talks on the Syrian crisis.

'It was necessary to discuss specific issues and directly declare our stance on them,' and listen to Syria as well in order to ensure further coordination, Qasemi stressed.

He further hoped the Syrian security officials' trip to Tehran would be fruitful for the regional questions and the future situation of Syria.

Preserving Syria's national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as peace and stability in that country is of top importance, said the spokesman.

Stability in Syria is considered as part of peace and stability in both world and region, he stressed.
