Militants attack Syria's Fua, Kefraya despite nationwide ceasefire - Reports

Sputnik- The militant groups in Syria's northern Idlib province shelled over 20 times towns of Fua and Kefraya, Iran's Fars news agency reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) According tothe news agency, militants targeted residential districts inboth cities, ignoring the nationwide truce. A nationwide ceasefire betweenSyrian government troops and several opposition factions came intoforce atmidnight local time onFriday. Russia and Turkey serve asguarantors ofthe deal which paves the way fornegotiations betweenthe warring parties.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced onThursday that the Syrian government and armed opposition groups had reached an agreement ona nationwide ceasefire inSyria and onreadiness tostart peace talks.

Putin called onthe Syrian government, armed opposition and all countries withinfluence onthe situation inthe Arab republic tosupport the reached agreements and totake part inthe anticipated talks inAstana. Fua and Kefraya are the only government-controlled enclave inIdlib's vast militant-held area. The towns ofsome 20,000 people have been undersiege since2013. The humanitarian situation remains dire, witha lack offood and basic necessities.
