IRNA � An Iranian prominent religious leader has criticized the political environment governing the world as filled with lies and hypocrisy.

'We are increasingly losing our faith in the global political environment,' said Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi on Wednesday.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said that the double standards followed by the West have created an unreliable atmosphere.

'A clear example of such a policy was exhibited by the West following the liberation of the Syrian city of Aleppo when they came under defeat in the city and had to do something to compensate for their wrong actions,' Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said.

'But the only thing they did was shedding a few crocodile tears,' the Grand Ayatollah said.

Who is responsible for the killing of the children in Aleppo?, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi asked.

'According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), one thousand Yemeni children are killed on a weekly basis as a result of bombings, sickness and malnourishment,' he said.

'Fortunately the world is aware of the West's crocodile tears and the contradictions in its policies,' the Ayatollah said.
