Iran, EAEU may sign temporary deal for future free trade zone

Sputnik- The president of Iran has shown interest in signing a temporary deal with the EAEU, leading to the creation of a free trade zone, according to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

ST.PETERSBURG (Sputnik) The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran may sign a temporary agreement that could lead tothe creation ofa free trade zone, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Monday. "The president ofIran has shown interest insigning a temporary deal withthe EAEU, leading tothe creation ofa free trade zone. Armenia is actively assisting the negotiations betweenIran and the Eurasian Economic Commission, aiming tosign the agreement fast," Sargsyan said.

Armenian president said that his country, asthe only EAEU member that has a land border withIran, was focusing onthe development oftransport and logistics joint projects, including the creation ofa transit route fromthe Persian Gulf tothe Black Sea, which would "create the platform fora safe and convenient access tothe Persian Gulf and onto the Indian Ocean forour EAEU partners."

Sargsyan has arrived inRussia toparticipate inthe sessions ofthe Collective Security Council ofCSTO and the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. The Eurasian Economic Union, initiated byRussia in2015, aims tosimplify and modernize trade ofgood and services betweenRussia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia.
