Iran invited to invest in building Kyrgyzstan hydropower plants

Tasnim Kyrgyzstans National Energy Holding Company has urged Iran to invest in Upper Naryn Cascade hydropower plants, Kambar-Ata-1 HPP, the company said on Friday.

Officials of the company said during a Kyrgyzstan-Iran business forum on Friday that Iran has been invited to invest in construction of the power plants.

Kyrgyzstans hydropower capacity is estimated at 142 billion kWh of electricity, they said, according to AKIPress website.

Today we use no more than 10% of this capacity. The Naryn River is the main water artery. Its use started with construction of the Uch-Kurgan hydropower plant. Kyrgyzstan has 17 hydropower plants in total, they added.

During presentation of Kyrgyzstans hydropower potential, such projects as Upper Naryn Cascade and Kambar-Ata-2 hydropower plants were prioritized.

Construction of these hydropower plants is an important part of development of the country's resources. The feasibility study has been prepared for the Kambar-Ata-1 hydropower plant. Electricity generated by the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP could be sold throughout the year. In summer time, its electricity can be exported as part of the CASA-1000 Project, the officials added.

The Kyrgyzstan-Iran business forum was held during an official visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his accompanying delegation to the Central Asian country.

At a meeting with Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbeko in Bishkek on Friday, President Rouhani highlighted Iranian companies readiness to provide technical and engineering services and implement development projects in Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that Iranian firms participate in international tenders and implement various projects with reasonable price and superior quality.

During Rouhanis visit to Kyrgyzstan, high-ranking officials from the two sides inked five agreements to boost cooperation in different fields.
