IRNA � On the eve of the auspicious birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Sixth Shia Imam Jafar Sadeq, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pardoned or commuted prison terms of 1231 inmates.

The prisoners subjected to Supreme Leader's amnesty include those who had received sentences from general courts, Judicial Organization of Armed Forces and Governmental Discretionary Punishments.

Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution grants the Supreme Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the Judiciary.

The Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani gave a proposal for amnesty to the Supreme Leader on the auspicious occasion.
