Iran interested in presence of Russian energy companies

Sputnik- Tehran is interested in the presence of Russian energy companies in Iran, and certain agreements are expected to be signed soon, Iran's Ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanai said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Sanai told Rossiya 24 television channel: "Iran is very much interested inthe presence ofRussian companies inIran. Several companies have visited Iran repeatedly, signed memorandums ofunderstanding."

He inparticular named LUKoil, Rosneft, Tatneft, Zarubezhneft and Gazprom. "Many ofthem signed documents, some will be signed soon," Sanai said. He also said that phone talks ofthe Russian and Iranian presidents partly influenced the Organization ofthe Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reaching the agreement tocut oil output. "What happened inOPEC is partly the result ofIranian-Russian cooperation. Our presidents had a phone conversation onthe eve ofthe OPEC meeting.

This also partially influenced the result and prompted OPEC toreach the agreement," Sanai said. On December 10, OPEC finished a meeting withnon-OPEC countries inVienna, where non-OPEC countries decided tocut oil output by558,000 barrels per day withRussia cutting the output by300,000 barrels per day fromJanuary. In November, OPEC agreed tocut oil production by1.2 million barrels per day forthe whole cartel.
