Doha Film Institute recruits Farhadi as Qumra Master

MNA Oscar-winning Iranian directorAsghar Farhadiis among the first recruited masters for theDoha Film Institutes 2017Qumraevent which seeks to provide mentorship for filmmakers around the world.


Highly-acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, known for his Oscar-winning film A Separation and Cannes award-winner dramaThe Salesman, as well as French directorBruno Dumont, and Cambodian-born documentary filmmakerRithy Panh are the first recruited masters for theDoha Film Institutes 2017Qumraevent, according to Variety.

Each Qumra Master will participate in a series of masterclasses, workshops and one-on-one sessions with directors of participating DFI-backed projects and industry professionals from around the world, and also screen one of their pics for Doha audiences.

Two more Qumra Masters will be announced during the Berlin Film Festival.

Qumra has been active since 2014 and the past masters include Mexican multihyphenate Gael Garcia Bernal; Romanian director Cristian Mungiu;US producer and director James Schamus; Russian director Aleksandr Sokurov; Bosnian director Danis Tanovic; and Japanese director Naomi Kawase.

The third edition of Qumra is set to take place in Doha March 3-8, 2017.
