Kremlin confirms Putin sent message to Iranian leadership

TASS- Russian President Vladimir Putin has handed over a message to the Iranian leadership, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed.

"Yes, I can confirm that," he said. "But I cannot disclose any details," Peskov added when asked about whether the message concerned oil production.

Earlier on Monday Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said the Iranian leadership had received a message from Putin. It was delivered by special Russian presidential representative for Syrian settlement Aleksandr Lavrentiev, who visited Tehran several days ago and met with the Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khameneis international affairs adviser, Ali Akbar Velayati. The Iranian official did not disclose the contents of the message, either.

Ghasemi noted the intensity of current Iranian-Russian consultations.

"Russias Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov is in Iran today. He will hold a meeting with his Iranian counterpart (deputy foreign minister for the affairs of Arab and African countries, Hossein Jaber Ansari - TASS). Our contacts are expanding and getting ever tighter," Ghasemi said.
