FM spox.: Iran not to be ‘the first to violate JCPOA’

MNA – Foreign Ministry spokesperson has told a press conference it is unlikely that President Barack Obama will veto Congress-enacted ISA.

Bahram Ghasemi told the press on Monday morning that the conduct by the US officials was far from surprising, and the hostility manifest in US policies toward Iran had been largely inveterate; Ghasemi was responding to Ernest Moniz’s remarks in meeting with Ali Akbar Salehi, head of AEOI, that demanded that US president should be committed to prevent ISA implementation.

“Currently, there is a high degree of uncertainty as to the US behavior in the near future, and we should sit and wait; but what is evident is that Obama will not live to his promises, since the news coming from Washington communicates no prospects of vetoing the ISA by the White House,” he added.

“Iran will not be an initiator of any action to undermine JCPOA and will wait the developments with patience; we do not see violation of JCPOA to be easily achieved, and we hope to see that the US turns back to the right track, since it could not undermine an internationally signed deal unilaterally,” he told reporters.

“The provisions of JCPOA give options to Iran to initiate necessary action to snap back to its conditions in nuclear program before JCPOA, and we have open hands in choosing from different course of action,” Ghasemi said.

On Velayati’s meeting with Putin’s envoy to Tehran, FM spokesperson declined to provide further comment about what he deemed  ‘an important message’ from Putin to Iranian officials the envoy conveyed earlier in November. “Russian deputy-FM is still in Tehran and will talk Syrian crisis with one of his counterparts; Tehran-Moscow ties are cordial and will definitely help situation in Syria.”

On possibilities of Russia’s using the Nojeh Airbase near Hamedan, Ghasemi confirmed the speculation; “Russia has successfully cooperated with Iran on Syria; however, we predict that Russia will seldom find it necessary to use the airbase; in any rate, Russian planes would again take off toward Syrian targets,” he added.
On delivery of S300 missile defense system, Ghasemi believed that Russia had been committed to agreement with Iran on missile system and that the deal had advanced to certain points, with Russians remaining true to delivering the system.
