Irans The Salesman takes 1st step toward winning Oscar

MNA By naming Asghar Farhadis The Salesman the best foreign language film of the year by US National Board of Review, the Iranian drama has taken its 1st step toward winning the 2017 Oscar.Asghar Farhadis Cannes award-winner drama The Salesman which has been chosen to represent Iran at the 2017 Academy Awards, was named by the US National Board of Review as the best foreign language film of the year.

The Iranian drama tells the story of Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti), a couple who are part-time actors playing Willy and Linda Loman in a Tehran production of Arthur Millers 'Death of a Salesman', when an intruder in their new home shakes this marriage to its core.

The National Board of Review is voted on by a mixture of academics, cinephiles, and film professionals who watch over 250 films before announcing their selection of the best work of the year in early December prior to an annual party in January.

The Board chose Manchester by the Sea, a critically adored drama about a grieving janitor, as the best film of the year, while O.J. Made in America, named best documentary and the Spotlight Award went to Creative Collaboration of Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg.
