Commander highlights Irans self- sufficiency in military sphere

Tasnim Iranian Army's Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi underlined that the countrys military dependence on foreigners has reduced to zero.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday to unveil the Iranian Navys new achievements in defense sector, Brigadier General Mousavi said, In the past, we used to be dependent on outsiders for almost everything we needed.

But with the spirit of self-sufficiency that prevails in the country (today), our dependence on the outside has almost been cut, he added.

The commander went on to say that such self-sufficiency in the Navy is the outcome of paying attention to scientific and academic sources.

During the ceremony, the Navy unveiled a number of new systems and projects for manufacturing military equipment including naval radars, simulators, and torpedoes.

The achievements include two homegrown systems for simulation of physical damage to naval vessels and one for training survival skills at sea.

Another project, dubbed Mersad, features production of components of Mark 46 torpedo.

One of the major products put on display at the ceremony is a fire-control system paired with weapons mounted on missile-launching vessels, including Jamaran-class destroyers.

The Navy also unveiled a radar system known as Sea Shield, a modified version of local radars integrated into a network.

The Navy unveiled another project, which includes an industrial pool for dynamic testing of watercraft.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Tehran has repeatedly stated that its military might is defensive in nature and poses no threat to other countries.
