Sputnik- The incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump should not dismantle Washington�s nuclear deal with Iran, former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Mike Mullen said Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik)�� The retired Navy admiral, who headed the Joint Chiefs under�Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, said the United States has seen enough wars in�the Middle East, and he urged the new administration to�look at�the Iran agreement "very carefully." "I think tearing the deal up�would be a mistake," Mullen told attendees at�the Washington Ideas Roundtable organized by�the Aspen Institute.

Mullen added that he has not seen any proposed alternative to�the deal, which was signed in�July 2015.

Iran and the P5+1 group of�nations � the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Russia plus Germany � agreed that in�exchange for�Tehran keeping its nuclear program exclusively for�peaceful uses, there would be a gradual lifting of�sanctions on�Iran. The agreement took effect on�January 16, after�the International Atomic Energy Agency officially confirmed Iran�s compliance with�the deal�s provisions.
