Iran allocates $9Bln for construction of Bushehr NPP's 2 power units

Sputnik- The first tranche of the allocated 300,000 billion rials ($9 billion) for the construction of two power blocks of the Bushehr NPP, built with the Russian assistance, will be transferred for the project within two weeks, according to Ali Akbar Salehi, the president of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Iranian authorities allocated a total of300,000 billion rials ($9 billion) forthe construction oftwo power blocks ofthe Bushehr NPP, built withthe Russian assistance, Ali Akbar Salehi, the president ofthe Atomic Energy Organization ofIran (AEOI), said onSaturday.

The first tranche ofthe allocated sum will be transferred forthe project withintwo weeks, Salehi said, asquoted bythe IRNA news agency. He added that the completion ofthe project would take a decade. Salehi said that AEOI has been engaged intwo other projects, namely the nuclear emergency unit and a hospital forheart diseases.

Bushehr is Irans first nuclear power plant. The construction started in1975, butwas suspended amidthe 1978-1979 Iran's Islamic revolution and the Western sanctions againstTehran, asGermany, responsible forthe Bushehr construction, joined the United States inrestrictive measures againstTehran.

Irans deal withRussia onthe first stage ofthe Bushehr project, Bushehr 1, goes back to1992. The nuclear power plant witha single 1,000-megawatt light water reactor was connected tothe national electric grid in2011 and reached full capacity the followingyear.

In September, a ceremony devoted tothe start ofthe construction ofa reactor facility destined was held inthe Bushehr province. The Russian Experimental Design Bureau (OKB) Gidropress, a subsidiary ofthe state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, is be responsible forthe development ofa reactor forthe NPP.
