Iran blasts massacre of Nigerian mourners as "Worrying, Unacceptable"

FNA- The Iranian foreign ministry lambasted the brutal killing of Nigerian Muslims in a mourning ceremony, describing it as "worrying and unacceptable".

"Repetition of the brutal scene of killing Muslims at a peaceful religious ceremony, which was held without posing any threat and violence, is worrying and unacceptable," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

He called on Nigerian officials to keep more vigilant against the culprits behind such violence and rift, and asked for their serious action to prevent such crimes.

At least nine people were killed and several more woundedduring clashes between the Nigerianpolice and Shiite Muslims at a religious procession in theNorthern state of Kano, according to witnesses and authorities.

The violence broke out onMondayduring a march of thousands of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) from Kano city to Zaria in neighboring Kaduna state for a religious mourning ceremony.

It was the latest in a series of incidents involving the group. A judicial inquiry in August reported that 347 IMN members were killed and buried in mass graves after clashes with the armyin December 2015.
