No immediate prospect for EU office in Iran: Spokesman

Tasnim Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi played down expectations for establishment of a European Union office in Tehran any time soon.

Speaking at his weekly press conference on Monday, Qassemi suggested that it is unlikely for the European Unions office to open in Iran in the near future.

He said there is still no precise and comprehensive view on opening of such an office in Tehran.

The issue of an EU office (in Iran) has been mooted by Europeans since a year ago, and we are now studying it. We have no definite time for opening the office, the spokesman noted.

Qassemi then unveiled plans for a new round of negotiations between Iran and the EU on Wednesday at the level of deputy ministers.

Negotiations (with the EU) are broad, long, time-consuming and complicated; however, we consider the talks per se as positive in finding common grounds for cooperation, he noted.

Irans Foreign Ministry had previously unveiled plans for a comprehensive round of negotiations with the EU, due to be held in Brussels in December.

The talks will reportedly focus on various issues, including human rights.
