Iranian FM positively assesses decisions on North-South transport corridor

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said on Friday that decisions on developing the North-South Transport Corridor, made during the trilateral meeting of Iranian, Azerbaijani and Russian leaders in Baku, were positive.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) On August 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian and Azerbaijani counterparts, Hassan Rouhani and Ilham Aliyev respectively, held a meeting inBaku. The presidents ofthe three countries managed todiscuss a wide range ofinternational issues, aswell ascertain issues ofregional cooperation.

"I would liketo say that the very good decisions ondeveloping transit and the international North-South Transport Corridor were made duringmeetings betweenour presidents inboth bilateral and trilateral formats inBaku," Zarif said duringthe meeting withRussian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

He also expressed hope that the reached agreements would be implemented. The North-South Transport Corridor project aims toreduce the costs and the time ofship, rail and road deliveries toand fromRussia, India, Iran, Azerbaijan and other countries located alongthe route.

Rouhani proposed tohold the next trilateral meeting inIran. Transport, energy and foreign ministers ofthe three countries are expected tohold a meeting inTehran aspart ofthe preparations forthe event.
