Iranian MPs in France for official visit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) The spokesman for the Iranian parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said two senior members of the commission have traveled to France on an official visit to hold talks on ways to boost parliamentary ties between Tehran and Paris.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi and another member of the commission, Hojatoleslam Mojtaba Zonnoor, are in France at the official invitation of the parliament of the Western European country.

He said the Iranian delegations visit has been made with the aim of holding meetings with senior French officials and exploring avenues for promotion of parliamentary relations between the two countries.

Back in September, President of Frances National Assembly Claude Bartolone paid a two-day visit to Iran and met with senior officials of the Islamic Republic, including Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Chairman of Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Larijani in Tehran on September 6, Bartolone praised good relations between the parliaments of Iran and France, saying useful negotiations were held on nuclear agreements and economic relations between the two countries.

The French lawmaker also stressed that such meetings will help in implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), and will also result in the removal of banking obstacles, presence of French businesses in Iran and expansion of economic ties.
