Irans Larijani slams Saudi crime against Yemeni civilians

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani denounced Saturdays carnage in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa caused by a Saudi airstrike that targeted a crowded funeral ceremony in the city.

In a message to his Yemeni counterpart Yahya Ali al-Raee on Sunday, Larijani strongly condemned the attack and expressed sympathy with the Yemeni people, officials and families of the victims.

While the world is once again in shock over the massacre of hundreds of innocent civilians in Sanaa in the attack launched by aggressive Saudi fighter jets, international circles and certain countries claiming to be advocates of human rights continue their silence and indifference to the tragic event, he deplored.

The Iranian parliament speaker also said the world should wonder how the rulers of a certain country, with support from the US and others, could attack the vital infrastructures of a poor country from air, land and sea on groundless pretexts and commit such crimes by violating international laws.

Elsewhere in his message, Larijani expressed Irans readiness to take immediate measures to help treat those injured in the attack in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Over 140 people were killed and over 525 wounded on Saturday, when the Saudi airstrike hit a community hall in southern Sanaa, where a funeral for the father of Interior Minister Jalal al-Roweishan was being held.

The Saudi missiles tore through the hall with hundreds of body parts left strewn in and outside the building.

The death toll was one of the largest in a single incident since March 2015, when the Riyadh regime began its deadly campaign to crush the Houthis and their allies and restore power to resigned president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Sanaa Mayor Abdel Qader Hilal was reported to be among the victims of Saturdays assault.
