All options open for US in Syria?

Alwaght-American officials claim that they are reviewing all options in Syria and even David Petraeus, former head of US Central Command, claimed that Syrian air force can be targeted using cruise missiles.

Petraeus who is also the former CIA director claimed that "it's not too late" for no-fly zones in Syria. "You can do that. That is very, very straightforward. Very, very quickly. And you don't even have to enter their airspace. You could do it with cruise missiles, air-launched, sea-launched and others," he said on PBSs Charlie Rose.

Critics of the idea argue that a safe zone would require a lot of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets to detect violations, and ground forces to protect the zone.

The US of targeting the Syrian air force was dealt a major blow following the deployment of -Russia S-300 air defense missiles in the Arab state.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the decision to deploy S-300 anti-air missile system in Syria came after receiving leaked data on US intentions to bomb Syrian airbases.

"The S-300 appeared there [in Syria] after experts close to the American establishment had started leaking informationthat the US could hit Syrian airfields with cruise missiles," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in an interview with Russia's Dozhd TV chennel. The Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that a battery of S-300 air defense systems had been delivered to Syria to protect the naval base at Tartus, as well as Russia warships deployed off the Syrian coast.

Russias Defense Ministry has cautioned the US-led coalition of carrying out airstrikes on Syrian army positions, adding in Syria there are numerous S-300 and S-400 air defense systems up and running.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, any airstrike or missile hitting targets in territory controlled by the Syrian government would put Russian personnel in danger. This is a clear warning from Moscow that it is ready to confront US-led forces if they attack Syrian Air Force.

US Elections Influencing Pronouncements on Syria

US presidential elections will be held next November and therefore some of the bellicose pronouncements by officials in Washington are meant to placate the domestic political audience.

The US is in a tight spot as it can also just walk out of the Syrian crisis since any side which emerges victorious in the Syrian crisis will attain tremendous achievements in regional and international politics. On the other hand, the US has options it cannot implement in the war torn country. The US hegemony has been greatly weakened and is facing serious existential threats.

Any all-out US attack on Syria will create more chaos in the region which will also lead to a major threat against the Israeli regime. Resistance movement which have been waiting for a chance to target the Israeli regime will use this opportunity to rain missiles on the Tel Aviv regime thus shaking it to the core.

The US needs to understand that, we are living in a multipolar world where the language of threats is no longer used to attain objectives.

Real US options in Syria

The US has several real options left in Syria. The first one is to continue supporting terrorists in the proxy war against the Syrian nation.

Speaking recently at the UN Headquarters in New York, Bashar al-Jaafari, the current Permanent Representative Syria the world body said, the causes of the Syrian conflict are due to an imposed terrorist war, which is supported by the Western countries. Emphasizing that the five-year Syrian conflict is not only about Aleppo, but about the fate of the entire country, Bashar al-Jaafari said the main cause of the crisis stems from terrorist war imposed on the Syrian people from abroad.

"The root causes of this conflict in Syria ravaging the country is due to this imposed terrorist war on the Syrians," al-Jaafari said, before proceeding to identify some of the foreign backers. "And this imposed terrorist war is backed by the Western countries, as well as by Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia."

The other option for the US and its allies is to return to the negotiating table and thus buy time until the lame duck President Barack Obama is out of office.

Meanwhile, Russia says that the US is to blame for the failure of diplomatic talks aimed at resolving the crisis in Syria.

The problem is that for the whole time we were involved in Russian-American negotiations we realized very clearly that the US had no joint position. Different organizations, different structures in Washington were taking different positions on whats going on Syria. They had absolutely different views, said foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday.

The recent events in Aleppo point to the victory of Syrian forces against foreign-backed terrorists and the complete liberation of the whole province. This victory is a major challenge to the US which continues to support terrorist groups in Syria. The current situation in Aleppo has compelled the US to bluff politically since the eventual outcome of the battle in this strategic region will determine the final victor in Syria.
