TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari made assurances that there has been no report on a possible suicide attack by the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group in the gathering of Friday prayers worshippers in Tehran.
“We have had no report on (the possibility of) a suicide attack by Daesh in Tehran’s Friday prayers,” Zolfaqari said on Saturday.
“It is possible that there had been such cases (attempts for terror attacks) in the distant past, but we have had no new report in this regard,” he added.
He also emphasized that although Takfiri (extremist) groups have made many attempts to carry out acts of terrorism in Iran, their plots have been foiled thanks to operations by the country’s intelligence and security forces.
On July 4, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry released video surveillance footage of a number of Daesh terrorists who were arrested in Tehran before carrying out a series of planned bombing raids.
Earlier, the Intelligence Ministry announced on June 20 that its agents had thwarted a major plot by Takfiri-Wahhabi groups for a series of bombing raids across the country during religious events in the holy month of Ramadan.
Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi said a few days later that a series of operations to arrest the terrorists had begun on June 14 and continued until June 20.
The minister said 10 Takfiri-Wahhabi terrorists were arrested in Tehran and three border and central provinces of the country, adding that they had masterminded different operations including planting bombs, detonation of remote control bombs, suicide attacks, and blowing up explosive-laden vehicles.
The terrorists wanted to carry out bombing raids in crowded locations, and had located 50 targets, the minister explained, saying they had even prepared the explosive material for some of the attacks and were preparing or receiving some for the others.
Alawi went on to say that 100 kilograms of explosive material -ready for blast- and precursor chemical compounds were confiscated in the operations, while the intelligence activities blocked the delivery of 2 tons of explosive materials to the terrorists.
