Yemeni army unveils new homegrown ballistic missile
TEHRAN (Tasnim) The missile command of the Yemeni Army announced that a new type of domestically-made missile dubbed Samoud (steadfastness) has been deployed on the battlefield against the Saudi-led coalition.

In a statement released on Thursday, the missile command of the Yemeni Army said the manufacture of new ballistic missiles is a result of the Yemeni peoples resistance and sacrifices for freedem and dignity and is also the result of their respect for Yemeni martyrs, the injured and prisoners.

The Samoud missile has a length of four meters and is 555mm in diameter. It weighs a ton and has the capacity of carrying 300 kilograms of warheads.

According to the statement, the Samoud missile, with a high destructive power, has a range of 38 kilometers.

The Yemeni forces had previously targeted Saudi positions with ballistic missiles named Qaher-1, which has a range of 500 kilometers.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Nearly 10,000 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
