5-month gas injection to Southern oil fields up 27%

TEHRAN, Sep 14 (Shana) -- Injection of gas to southern Iranian oil fields rose by 27% year-on-year in the first 5 month of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20.

The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) injected 8.14bcm of gas in the country's southern oilfields during the period.

Last year, 6.4bcm of gas was injected into the fields for enhanced crude oil recovery, said Najaf Balali, director of District I of gas Distribution Operation.

During the period, 5.7bcm of natural gas was injected into Aghajari oilfield, up 37% from the same period a year earlier, he told Shana.

Besides, 2bcm was injected into Koranj oilfield, up 11% year-on-year.

Furthermore, Koupal oilfield received 500mcm of gas during the period.

In most cases, a field will incorporate a planned distribution of gas-injection wells to maintain reservoir pressure and effect an efficient sweep of recoverable liquids.
