Zarif due in Venezuela on Tuesday

Tehran, Sept 12, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif will on Tuesday depart Tehran for Venezuela, where the 17th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement is to be held.


Zarif will be heading a delegation of experts, consisting his deputies Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht-e Ravanchi.

The expert-level meeting is to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday and the foreign ministers from 120 member states will convene on Thursday and Friday.

President Hassan Rouhani is also due to travel to Venezuela on Friday to attend a NAM summit meeting which is slated for Saturday and Sunday.

Parviz Esmaeili, the head of the department for communications and information dissemination of the presidential office, said that Rouhani, as the rotating president of the NAM, will confer presidency of the NAM to the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The president will also meet and confer with a number of heads of state on the sidelines of the event, Esmaeili said.

After the NAM Summit, the president will leave Venezuela to Havana upon an official invitation by his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro, Esmaeili added.

Apart from meeting the Cuban president, Rouhani is also scheduled to meet with Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Then the president will leave Havana for New York where the 71st UN General Assembly meeting is to be held.
