Minister: All Iran transit routes open to Afghanistan

Torbat Heidariyeh, Khorasan Razavi prov, Sept 7, IRNA Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi said on Wednesday that all Iranian transit routes have to be open to Afghanistan.

Speaking during a ceremony to inaugurate the third phase of Khaf-Herat railway at the Iranian border with Afghanistan, Akhoundi said that Afghanistan should be given a chance to be linked to Central Asia, India, the West and the Caspian Sea through Iran.

We are ready to provide out neighboring country with access to all air, land and sea routes without any limitation , Akhoundi said.

He said that Iran has been standing by Afghanistan during tough times and is hosting two million Afghan refugees.

He recalled signing Chabahar agreement by the presidents of Iran and Afghanistan a few months ago in Iran, he said that Chabahar Port is now capable of transferring 2.5 million tons of goods and the figure is expected to reach eight million tons by the yearend.
