Georgia imports 24m cm gas from Iran in 6 months

Tehran, Sept 7, IRNA Georgia has imported more than 24 million cubic meters of gas from Iran through Armenia since January 1, 2016.


Georgia is among Iran's latest gas customers, starting import of gas for power plant consumption.

The contract for export of Iranian gas has not yet been signed with the Georgian government, rather the GIEC private company has started gas imports from Iran.

Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) Ali-Reza Kameli had already said a gas exports deal is going to be signed with Georgian GIEC company.

Kameli said based on the contract, in four months, 40 million cubic meters gas will be shipped to Georgia.

Ministry of Petroleum quoted Pan Armenian website as saying that the import through Armenian territory in the first six months of 2016 will cost Georgia $6.2 million.

Georgia imported 24,700,000 cubic meters of gas from Iran via Armenia in the said six months.
