Tehran allocates funds for Bushehr-2 nuclear plant project

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the deputy head of the Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) stated that Tehran allocated money for the construction of two new nuclear reactors at the site of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Iran has allocated money forthe construction oftwo new nuclear reactors atthe site ofthe Bushehr nuclear power plant, known asthe Bushehr-2 project, the deputy head ofthe country's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) was quoted assaying bylocal media.

Behrouz Kamalvandi did not reveal the amount allocated byTehran tofund the project when speaking onthe matter onSunday butnoted that President Hassan Rouhani gave the go-ahead forconstruction tocommence, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported. "We are going toset the date forthe foundation stone ceremony inthe nearfuture," the AEOI deputy head said. Bushehr, Irans first Russian-built nuclear power plant, began operations in2011. The project forBushehr-2 was presented byRussian nuclear experts inTehran inSeptember 2014. In November, Iran signed a number ofdeals withRussia forthe construction oftwo new nuclear reactors atthe Bushehr site withan option foran additional six.
