Iran, Lebanon discuss ways to boost joint investment

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi and Lebanese Minister of Industry Hussein al-Hajj Hassan in a meeting in Tehran conferred on ways to further increase joint investment in different arenas.

"We are ready to work on setting up a joint investment fund between Iran and Lebanon to start joint ventures in aerospace and marine industries, construction of railways and highways, urban development and stock market," Akhoundi said during the meeting on Wednesday.

He also underlined Iran's preparedness to hold the next meeting of the two countries' joint economic commission.

Elsewhere, Akhoundi proposed start of Beirut-Mashhad, Beirut-Tehran and Beirut-Shiraz direct flights to further expand bilateral ties and mutual cooperation.

Iranian and Lebanese officials in a meeting in Beirut in May had also explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral ties in economic and trade areas.

During the meeting in the Lebanese capital, Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mojtaba Khosrotaj and Lebanese Trade Minister Alain Hakim underlined the expansion of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

The Lebanese trade minister voiced his country's willingness to develop relations with Iran in the fields of investment and economy.

Khosrotaj underlined the need for joint investment in setting up a shipping line from the Persian Gulf in Southern Iran to Lebanon to develop maritime transport.
