Foreign Ministry works to take reparations from Saudis for the dead

Tehran, Aug 30, IRNA The Foreign Ministry is working with Saudi government to get reparations for the victims of the human tragedy in Mina, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said on Tuesday.

He said that envoys of Iranian diplomatic organ have held 570 formal and informal meetings with the Saudi officials on victims of Mina catastrophe and a suitable ground has been prepared to get to a settlement.

Qashqavi told a group of bereaved families of Mina martyrs from various provinces of the country that officials of Iranian representative offices have been assigned to raise the issue of reparations for families of the victims with the Saudi government.

The families have taken legal action with Iranian courts of justice against Saudi government seeking compensation for the death of their loved ones in the Saudi territory.

According to International Law, the Saudi government is responsible for paying compensation to the families of those died in the Saudi territory.

Iranian Ministry of Justice can take the complaints of the Iranian families to the Saudi government in line with the Universal Jurisdiction.

Qashqavi said the priority of the Iranian team visited Saudi Arabia earlier was to prevent burial and identification of the bodies of the martyrs in Mecca.
