Irans intelligence agencies closely monitoring Daesh from Syria to Iraq: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) A senior Iranian lawmaker made assurances that the Islamic Republics intelligence and security services are keeping a close eye on the activities of Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group from northern Syria to eastern Iraq.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Monday, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi pointed to the recent arrest of a number of Daesh militants in Iran, saying that they had been closely monitored by the Iranian intelligence forces.

Since the moment they undertake missions against Iran in the headquarters of Daesh in Syrias Raqqa or Iraqs Mosul, they are identified by our countrys security organizations and are arrested later (in Iran), he noted.

On July 4, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry released video surveillance footage of a number of Daesh terrorists who were arrested in Tehran before carrying out a series of planned bombing raids.

Earlier on June 20, the Intelligence Ministry announced, in a statement, that its agents thwarted a major plot by the Takfiri-Wahhabi groups for a series of bombing raids across the country during religious events in the holy month of Ramadan.

Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi said a few days later that a series of operations to arrest the terrorists had begun on June 14 and continued until June 20.

According to the minister, 10 Takfiri-Wahhabi terrorists were arrested in Tehran and three border and central provinces of the country, saying they had masterminded different operations including planting bombs, detonation of remote control bombs, suicide attacks, and blowing up explosive-laden vehicles.

The terrorists wanted to carry out bombing raids in crowded locations, and had located 50 targets, the minister explained, saying they had even prepared the explosive material for some of the attacks and were preparing or receiving some for the others.

Alawi said 100 kilograms of explosive material -ready for blast- and precursor chemical compounds were confiscated in the operations, while the intelligence activities blocked the delivery of 2 tons of explosive materials to the terrorists.
