Zarif winds up Latin American tour, heading for home

Caracas, Aug 28, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wound up his six-nation Latin American tour, heading for home Sunday.

During his one-week visit to Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia and Venezuela, Zarif met with presidents, foreign ministers and senior officials of the countries and attended conferences to explain Iranian economic opportunities.

It was the first Zarif visit to Latin America as a foreign minister and he was the first Iranian foreign minister to visit Chile.

Zarif called his visit constructive and successful, saying that Iran's ties with Latin America states will be expanded.

During the tour, Zarif attended six conferences to elaborate on economic opportunities among private and public sectors of these states with Iran with the agenda of 'economic diplomacy'.

Signing memorandum of understanding on commercial cooperation between Iran's Chamber of Commerce and Cuba, two agreements and MoU on banking cooperation, a MoU for cooperation on quarantine and protection of plants with Ecuador, a MoU on peaceful cooperation in science and aerospace technology with Bolivia account for the achievements of the first Zarif visit to the Latin American states.

Some 120 Iranian business executives were accompanying the foreign minister.
