US urges Russia, Iran to help seek accountability for Syria chemical attacks

White House National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price said that the United States calls on Russia and Iran to join efforts to seek accountability for those responsible for using chemical weapons in Syria.






WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The United States calls onRussia and Iran tojoin efforts toseek accountability forthose responsible forusing chemical weapons inSyria, White House National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price said ina press release.
"The United States will work withour international partners toseek accountability throughappropriate diplomatic mechanisms," Price stated onWednesday. "We urge all UN member states and parties tothe Chemical Weapons Convention, including Russia and Iran, toparticipate inthis effort."


Earlier inthe day, Price noted, the UN and Organization forthe Prohibition ofChemical Weapons released the results ofa probe intochemical weapons attacks inSyria in2014 and 2015 that implicate the Syrian government and Daesh terrorist group.

Syrian envoy tothe United Nations Bashar Jaafari told Sputnik that the UN ignored hundreds ofreports onchemical attacks filed bythe Syrian government.

On Tuesday, Jaafari claimed that the sarin gas attack that killed hundreds ofpeople inthe Syrian town ofGhouta inAugust 2013 was a plot organized byFrench intelligence.
