Irans FM due in Ankara Friday: Turkey

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is scheduled to travel to Turkey on Friday, a report said.

According to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, cited by the Daily Sabah newspaper, Zarif will meet with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The statement added that during the visit, Zarif will confer with the Turkish officials on different aspects of bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

It will be the first visit to the neighboring country by a senior Iranian official since the failed coup attempt in Turkey back on July 15.

Iran was among the very first countries to condemn the coup attempt.

A few weeks ago, Turkish ambassador to Tehran hailed Irans stance against the coup, saying no other government acted like Iran in the process of the putsch.

Reza Hakan Tekin said in an interview with Tasnim that Ankara is pleased with Irans official stance in the early hours of the coup.

Iranian officials, including the president and parliament speaker as well as the Iranian nation stood by the Turkish government and nation (during the coup), he noted.
