29 Iranian prisoners in UAE granted amnesty: Diplomat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said the United Arab Emirates has pardoned 29 Iranian nationals imprisoned in the Arab country.

Irans diplomatic mission in the UAE seriously pursues the status of Iranian convicts in the Arab country and makes requests for their release on every occasion, Qashqavi said on Wednesday.

As a result of such diplomatic efforts, a number of them are released from prison in the Arab country each year and this time 29 Iranians have been granted amnesty.

Back in December 2014, Qashqavi paid an official visit to Abu Dhabi to attend Iran-UAE Joint Consular Cooperation Commission.

During his visit, Qashqavi expressed Irans resolve to develop relations with the UAE in all areas, especially in consular cooperation, and underlined the need for mutual cooperation and consultation on regional issues.

The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the conclusion of the meeting.

The 17-clause document includes measures to simplify visa formalities, settle the residence problems of the two countries nationals, and enhance judicial ties.
