Putin notes significant progress in Russian-Iranian relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday Russia and Iran had made big progress in cooperation across all spheres since his last visit to Tehran.





BAKU (Sputnik) Putin was speaking inAzeri capital Baku where he met withIranian President Hassan Rouhani and Azerbaijan's Ilham Aliyev. The Russian leader last met withRouhani when he visited Iran inNovember 2015 forthe first time ineight years.
"Since then, weve come a long way indeveloping our bilateral relations. Our friendship is growing stronger and becoming more comprehensive. This is true forour economic ties and political contacts acrossall spheres, aswell asfor humanitarian cooperation," Putin said ata meeting withRouhani inBaku.


In his turn, the Iranian president expressed gratitude forRussia's help in clinching the July 2015 nuclear dealbetweenIran and six world powers, which rid Tehran ofnuclear-related economic sanctions.


Rouhani spoke ofa rise intrade flows betweenRussia and Iran, and predicted that Mondays summit inBaku would further strengthen trilateral relations betweenthe Caspian neighbor nations and increase overall stability inthe region.
