Moscow, Tehran discuss construction of LNG plant in Southern Iran

Moscow and Tehran may build a plant producing liquefied natural gas in Iran, the Russian energy minister said.





BAKU (Sputnik) Moscow and Tehran are discussing the possibility ofbuilding a plant producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) insouthern Iran, aswell assupplies of LNG fromthis plant inexchange fordeliveries ofRussian natural gas throughAzerbaijan tothe north ofthe country, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Monday.
"In the gas sector, we are considering the prospects ofswap gas deliveries tonorthern Iran throughAzerbaijan withthe possibility ofconstructing an LNG plant insouthern Iran, receiving the equivalent ofLNG tobe delivered tomarkets inSouth East Asia where gas consumption is expected togrow withhigher rates inthe future," Novak told reporters inBaku followingRussia-Iran-Azerbaijan summit.
