Iran still ready to send arms aid to Lebanon

Beirut, Aug 2, IRNA A senior Iranian lawmaker announced here that Iran is still ready to send military aid to Lebanon's Army to fight against Zionists and Takfiri terrorists.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of Iran's Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks while talking to reporters Monday afternoon after paying tribute to martyrs of resistance in this country.

'Everybody in the region and Lebanon knows that Iran is sincere in providing the arms aid and military equipment,' Boroujerdi said.

In a trip to Beirut, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani has also expressed the country's readiness for helping the Lebanon's Army to combat Takfiri terrorism.

Iran will be ready to do so if Lebanon requests, Boroujerdi said.

Iran has already informed Lebanese officials about military equipment that it can provide Lebanon's Army with, but Lebanese government has not yet given its final approval on the issue.

Asked about the claims that Iran is an impediment to election of Lebanese president, Boroujerdi said, 'Those sides which make such baseless claims know that Iran has never been an obstacle to the solution of Lebanese problems.'

Instead, he added, Iran has made its all-out efforts to help its friendly and brotherly country to find due solutions to its problems.

Lebanon has had no president since April 2014 and the Prime Minister is now playing the role of Acting President.

Boroujerdi arrived in Beirut on Monday for a two-day visit to meet with top Lebanese officials.

He has held talks here with the Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil and a number of Lebanese lawmakers.

Boroujerdi is to hold talks with the country's Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Tammam Salam later.
